Greenwood Promise, the nonprofit that provides tuition-free pathways to college for Greenwood County students, is entering a new chapter of leadership. Dr. Matt Logan, President and CEO of Self Regional Healthcare, will take over as Chairman of the organization’s Board of Directors for the term beginning July 2026, succeeding Ron Millender, who has chaired the board since Greenwood Promise was founded in 2015.
Jay Self, President and COO of Greenwood Mills Inc., will step into the role of Vice-Chairman, a position Logan held before his move to the top of the board.
“It is an honor to step into this role and continue the work Ron and our board have built over the past decade,” Logan said. “Greenwood Promise has already changed thousands of lives, and I’m committed to helping us reach even further — toward a future where every student in this county knows a college education is within their reach.”
Millender reflected on the organization’s growth since its founding. “When we started Greenwood Promise in 2015, we believed our community could remove the financial barriers standing between our students and a college degree,” he said. “A decade and nearly 2,400 students later, I couldn’t be prouder of what this board and staff have accomplished. I’m grateful for the chance to have led this effort, and I know Greenwood Promise is in excellent hands with Matt at the helm.”
The board is also welcoming two new members. Wells Dunlap, President of Countybank, brings deep financial expertise and a longstanding reputation in the Greenwood community, where his family’s name has been tied to local banking for decades. His leadership in overseeing Countybank’s financial performance and operations gives the board added insight as Greenwood Promise works toward long-term financial sustainability.
Andria Wendell, Grant Manager at Self Regional Healthcare, joins the board as well. Wendell brings a track record of writing successful grants and securing funding for organizations across sectors, a skill set the board expects will help strengthen Greenwood Promise’s fundraising efforts as it works toward growing its endowment.
Greenwood Promise also thanked outgoing board members Jerry Stevens, James Bateman, and Frank Wideman for their service.
“Ron’s leadership built the foundation Greenwood Promise stands on today, and Matt brings exactly the vision and credibility we need for the next chapter,” said Carrie Hofmann, President and CEO of Greenwood Promise. “I’m also deeply grateful to Jerry, James, and Frank for the time and wisdom they gave to this board — and excited to welcome Wells and Andria, whose expertise will serve our students well.”
Since 2017, Greenwood Promise has provided more than $789,000 in scholarships and impacted more than 2,400 students, offering tuition-free pathways to associate and bachelor’s degrees in high-demand fields for Greenwood County students.
